Limo humvee

The short journey from Trowbridge to Warminster on Tuesday was notable for one thing. A Limo Humvee parked in a drive. The biggest symbol of the ridiculous excess of our scoiety we have seen on the march.

Distance covered so far: 851 miles

Update (from Pete, the WDM web officer):

We did have one comment to this post which was just a signpost to a Limo Humvee hire site! - since I've just discovered that this entry features quite high up in google when you search for "Limo Humvee" (try it!, I haven't tried "Limo Hummer" yet)- quite amusing since as you say, Humvees demonstrate perfectly the most selfish, stupid and excessive wastage of our society! - hopefully someone searching for Limo Humvee hire will think twice and perhaps go by bike or bus..

There's the proud owner of a bright yellow humvee near me here in SUV City, Surrey. I confronted him and two young hangers-on when he parked right on a corner on double yellow lines by a supermarket ministore full of fresh flowers and beans flown in from Kenya. It got a bit heated when I commented that his "obscene full-gozzling monster must be compensation for your small feet [so to speak]". His sidekicks retorted that I was a fat, ugly b*****d!" The cheeky devil, parked illegally on 2 counts, got out his neat little digital camera, and photoed me and my car number plate. His photo will have shown my now-old-fashioned gesture, which Churchill once famously made the other way round. Like “wicked” means good, it apparently means something else now, because I see Christian Aid are asking people to send thousands of cardboard cut-out postcards of this - in my younger days - insulting gesture to Gordon Brown. Unless they just want to be rude to him thousands of times over.

At present, many limo rental operators use classic automobiles, which either offer their clients a chance to ride in a luxurious Rolls-Royce, Mercedes Benz, Bentley, Town Car or stretched Hummer SU type. Some of these limo models even have the driver's compartment uncovered, which kind of goes back to the old days when horse-drawn carriages ruled the roads. Some innovative limousine hire operators have even capitalized by converting almost any vehicle imaginable, from Lincoln Navigator SUVs to Mini Coopers, BMW's, off-road trucks and SUV's, all in an effort to lure potential clients and please to most fickle of showbiz personalities. Some rental services even go to great lengths to use cars which were never even meant for the streets.

I was searching about Humvee and hummer limos and found interesting info. Hummer and humvee terms overlap somewhat, but generally, "Hummer" refers to the civilian models and "Humvee" refers to the military ones. "Humvee" comes from "HMMWV", a military term for "High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle". The civilian models of limo Humvee are basically the same as the military ones (they go down the same assembly line until reaching the finishing stages) with the addition of nice interiors and other "creature comforts".
